Ann Devine Ferreira, 70, of Dartmouth passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2017 with her beloved husband, Silvino C. Ferreira and cherished daughter, Amy D. Ferreira, by her side at St. Luke's Hospital.

Born in East Providence, a daughter of the late Edward M. and Ida (Clark) Devine, she grew up there but spent all her treasured summers in Bay View since she was a small child. She always considered Dartmouth to be her true home, and as soon as she was old enough she bought the Bay View home from her parents and made it her full time residence.

Mrs. Ferreira was an elementary school teacher in East Providence until 1987. After the birth of her two beloved children, she realized her true passion in life involved helping those students who couldn't always speak for themselves, which led her to her later position with the Dartmouth School Department as the team coordinator for special education from 1990 to 2004. Ann also had a tremendous love of the water and sailing. She was a very active member of the New Bedford Yacht Club. While at NBYC, she enjoyed the waterfront activities and cruising with her family on their boat Tigger, but was also an invaluable asset to the racing community. She could always be counted on to volunteer for any regatta and was known as the friendly face of registration at the Buzzards Bay Regatta.

Her dedication and love of her son, Edward, also inspired her to be an active supporter of the Schwartz Center. In her retirement, she still wanted to reach out to children, so she wrote her own series of children's books based on the life of the family's Golden Retriever Bailey, and his many friends. These books were published so they can be shared by many children in the future.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two children, Amy Devine Ferreira and Edward Michael Ferreira both of Dartmouth; two step children, Marcio C. Ferreira of Johnston, RI and Nancy W. Rogers of Sparta, TN; five step grandchildren; and one step great grandchild. She was the sister of the late Mary Ida Devine.

Her Funeral will be held on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at 9:00AM from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME at DARTMOUTH, 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth followed by her Funeral Mass at 10:00AM in St. Mary's Church, 783 Dartmouth St., Dartmouth. Visiting hours Monday from 4PM to 8PM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to The Schwartz Center, 1 Posa Place, North Dartmouth, MA 02747 or Community Boating Center, 1641 Padanaram Ave, New Bedford, MA 02740.
